The Gardens of Valsaintes Abbey are a unique destination in the heart of Haute-Provence. This remarkable garden reveals a different face with each passing season. A rose garden (350 varieties of old, modern, and botanical roses), a dry garden, and a permaculture vegetable garden unfold across the terraced hillsides (restanques). The garden is maintained entirely using natural gardening methods (permaculture, aromatherapy).
The church, the last remaining vestige of Provence’s fourth Cistercian abbey, welcomes visitors and resonates with Gregorian chant throughout the year.
The garden is open from February to October for self-guided or guided tours. Numerous events are offered throughout the year: conferences, workshops, and demonstrations.
Three signature events punctuate the year: L’Abbaye en Roses (late May to early June), the Tomato Festival (mid-August), and the Winter Solstice.
Enjoy a delicious meal at the on-site restaurant, open year-round.
You can also extend your visit with an overnight stay in one of the abbey’s guest rooms or in the gîte, which hosts numerous workshops throughout the year.

Each year in May, life at Valsaintes Abbey blooms with roses!
Every spring, with the blooming of 300 varieties of old, contemporary, and botanical roses, the rose is crowned the ephemeral queen of our garden. Explosions of color and fragrance await. Discover along your stroll through the garden: the Cistercian church, the dry garden, and our permaculture vegetable garden.
Daily activities.
The tomato is a star of our kitchens, enjoyed in countless ways. It takes center stage at this festive day in Valsaintes. On the program: conferences, workshops and cooking demonstrations, tomato collections, producers' market, and more.
Il est à l’abbaye de Valsaintes des instants qui ne s’oublient pas. Le solstice d’hiver est un moment précieux en émotions et en partages et nous vous invitons à vous joindre à nous.
En décembre, au moment du solstice d’hiver, l’église de l’abbaye de Valsaintes accueille une manifestation solaire due à la hauteur donnée à l’oculus en façade sud, à la profondeur de l’église et surtout à de l’orientation naturelle de la nef par rapport à l’axe Nord-Sud.
En effet, à la différence de la plupart des églises qui sont orientées Est-Ouest, celle de Valsaintes à Boulinette est orientée nord-sud avec un décalage de 22,5° par rapport à cet axe.
A 14h32 précises, lorsque le soleil se trouve parfaitement dans l’axe de l’église, un disque de lumière solaire vient éclairer le centre de l’autel.
Cet effet lumineux, redécouvert de façon fortuite, ne se produit qu’à ce moment de l’année. Nous célébrons donc cet instant particulier de l’année, symbole du renouveau de la vie attendu au plus sombre de l’hiver.
